Ritornello '26 ( Ziwei’s POV )
I am writing this because I wish to keep my sanity during this busy ass period of my life because I have everything due and my life is gonna fall apart soon. Okay. I know. Everyone is equally busy, but I'm busier!! There will be no order or timeline to whatever I'm writing here cause that's just how it is.
I came for the first practice cuz 心痒痒. Really wanted to play the trumpet again. After all the try-harding for so many years, 现在不玩了 有一点浪费对不对？？Although I probably didn't sound like I was a try-hard back then .... But then, one practice became two, two became three and the rest is history. I didn't want to join at first cuz like fr 现在很忙！！ and I'll have no time to commit to keep practicing on my own and then I'll sound real bad like I was STRUGGLING to play tuning C. Tuning C. Tuning C. maybe my range was half an octave (low C to low F#) but i was also struggling to play low notes. So like my effective playable range was maybe 3, 4 notes? idk. Speaking of which, bruh, i literally tried to change embouchure cause braces probably changed my teeth structure = effectively I can now play in the middle! or so I thought! (Fig.1) As the practice went on, the more my trumpet mouthpiece shifted right and 恭喜发财 I have returned to my old ways (not sure if it was good or bad idk leh)
Prologue 1 - there was this moment during rehearsal that stunned me like wah everyone was damn together and it sounded like a BLOCK of sound. maybe my ears arent that great? but it really sounded great to me (trumpet section). I remember telling Boon Li like wah we sounded damn great. I think it was during the full run in the hall. And like wym the man stood up there for probably a year and nobody actually stopped playing.
With heart and voice - Wah i actually like this piece alot?! Good job David Gillingham. I just remember being locked in. Like I split parts with Boon Li and Liang Yun esp the Low G part (why must hold so long.....) and always halfway 断气 😔. It was just tiring but loved it, somehow managed to play the end (or so i thought)
Highlights from Spirited Away - special thanks to clara for borrowing me the flugelhorn (Fig 2). I loved playing all these ghibli pieces since like long ago cuz they sound amazing (good job joe). thank you for the opportunity to play flugelhorn part @ wan siang who wanted to kick me to trumpet part (wah thank god cuz i cfm cannot play). Unfortunately my tuning was abit on off on off one (woops but i tried ...) thanks Mei Yee for looking out for me when i sat beside you and Junhui for this piece! and eh sorry leh... i tght we changing seat alr then i stand up... we never rehearse the acknowledgement part 👀
Seventh Night of July - eh surprise? i really like this piece too esp all the harmony part and the 2nd trumpet part that only 2nd trumpet play. The time during practice when Chen Kong couldnt come and I was asked to play the upper divisi.. like erm my brain cannot process it somehow. I kept playing Db or smth and D then like eh eh why sound so weird ah?? Felt a sense of achievement when we played that 2-3 bars like wah we shined like a star @chen kong @boon li @xin yu (iykyk). also my brain 放屁 after the trumpet solo then I was like shit forget what bar alr.
Intermission - this is a break for your brains as well. Good job for making it this far! Hope this was an interesting read for you up to this point 😀.
Into the sky - my downfall. The tonguing and the high notes - both i cannot do but again, i tried lor i tried. Thank you to swee iang and joshua for tanking this cuz me and zhi feng probably couldnt do it (sorry zhifeng).
Selections from Les Misérables - wah we had to many versions to pick from and brando's classic came - fake democracy 😂 there was a false scenerio of having choices but the choice was already decided after playing. it just needed some convincing (gasligh......) right. was a fun piece! was fun playing with zhifeng altho tbh i played alot of wrong notes also fml the key signature kept changing my brain just didnt think anymore.
Yoasobi (NSB204) - played this with junhui and swee iang (Fig. 1). But i forgot if swee iang sat beside me during the actual concert. Was fun like it got me listening to the actual YO A sobi songs. actually quite catchy and nice leh. i only remember giggling and laughing in this piece. fun. oh ya and also deciphering the unnatural rhythms with swee iang.. thank you carry once again...
Queen medley - all i remember was this piece almost broke down (imo) maybe it didnt. HAHA. exchanged eye contact with wan siang a few times during concert cuz funny ahhahah almost broke down. again 我已经累了。。。。the mouth cannot keep the shape anymore so just anyhow put and play (not rlly anyhow but u get the idea)
AKB - i just played it and vibed! so fun!
amk school song - was fun transcribing it on the spot (nvr again). my brain was 5 bars behind or smth
Okay that's all for the song. Then it's all about dinner and food! wah tian wei 你的 financiers really 很好吃 and moist (although u kept disclaiming its not moist) i think you can open a baking shop soon. was deadass hungry after practice and ate it. revived. Then we ate dinner during the full run practice (Fig 3). We were like interrogating (had to google cuz i can't spell) xingni which was kinda funny with all those qns from junhui , me and everyone else. hope it wasnt troubling! Lastly. the prata. I was wondering why chen kong didn't drink his teh ice and let it sit there for ages. turns out he thought it was mine and i thought it was his. who did it belong to? swee iang who had already ordered another cup cuz he thought his didnt come. and junhui who drank the sugary concoction teh 3 layer thingy. wow.
Okay that's about all byebye! this is as much as I could write cuz im going back to reality of chionging and sleeping! was nice talking to everyone and glad to hear all the tea (please keep it coming). i need to know.

i give this report a 75% because it was 5 days late. 5% penalty per day. good written report. though references are not written accordingly to the APA format. also missing a reference list being the programme booklet because i definitely had to use that as a reference to read this piece. good work!
